They aren’t the greatest pictures, but I wanted to share with you a little visitor we had the other day.
A teeny little red-headed woodpecker! I see them off and on throughout the year (and hear them all summer-long!), but it’s mostly elsewhere in the survey. It appears they have a few favourite trees and they don’t seem to venture very far.
So it was nice to see this little guy stopping by for a little lunch on a chilly afternoon!
What a cute little fella! All the trees we are cutting up are filled with little holes made by our woodpeckers. When I first moved here I could not figure out what that weird noise was. It’s not often that I get to see them but I hear them all the time.

We’ve had a woodpecker around for a couple of years now. For some reason, he chooses to peck on the roof support posts of our porch even though they’re pressure treated lumber. The noise reverberates off the tin roofing for a really AMPLIFIED noise – that might be what he’s after! Forget snacks – he’s just a frustrated drummer!

Yes, we hear woodpeckers too, but very rarely see one.

Tap tap tap! As long as he doesn’t poke holes in stuff you care about, he’s welcome to the party!
