A new knit

Remember that chunky cardigan I got swindled into making by Dave’s friend…?

Well, I finally started it. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s knit in one piece so that’s the back and two fronts on that needle.

It’s the East Hale cardigan, though I’m modifying it to have buttons, instead of a zipper. It’s a chunky yarn, so in theory, it should knit up fast. But the yarn, as I expected, is horrible! It’s like knitting with thick twine. It itches my hands just in the knitting – to me it’s going to be absolutely unwearable, but it’s what the friend wants so…

I’ve started it now so that even if I can’t work on it steadily, I should be able to finish it in time for fall for him.

Wish me luck!

  1. I do like that pattern. The yarn that Vera sent me for the blanket is chunky and I don’t usually work with it because it always feels clunky but this doesn’t. It’s Knit Picks and it’s SO soft and a joy to knit up. I hope you find some enjoyment in knitting the sweater. It would be a shame to spend that much time making something you dislike.

Good luck! He must be quite the guy to be able to wear itchy wool. I suppose if you put enough layers under it you can wear anything. That’s how I deal with my Lopi sweaters and I have to admit they are the warmest things in the world when you are out in the cold and damp. You can’t beat them for snow.

The pattern and yarn color are lovely. What a challenge to deal with yarn that feels so unpleasant. Hope the end result is worth the effort. I think Dee had the best advice.
