As I’ve read more and more quilt blogs, I’ve discovered the magic of Leaders and Enders. For all you non-quilters, you can find an explanation of L&Es here.
As mentioned before as I’ve completed projects, I’ve been cutting the leftover fabrics into two sizes – 2.5 inch strips, and 4 inch squares. The strips are being used to build my scrappy log cabins, but I didn’t have a plan for the squares.
That is until I saw Wyoming Breezes’ Melting Pot quilt top.
The basket that holds the squares was getting quite full, and it was definitely time to start doing something with them
The quilt uses a lot of four patches, and they are perfect blocks to use for L&Es. I matched a bunch of squares up and put them to the test as I made a few more Disappearing Hourglass blocks
After making two blocks for the Disappearing quilt, I had quite a few squares sewn together, ready to turn into four patches…
It’s kind of amazing that you can build a quilt while building a totally different quilt!

Many people swear by L&Es, but I tend to get sidetracked to finish them before working on something else. Odd, I know, but that’s the way my mind works.
Please prepare a post about your machine. Is it a Featherweight? What’s its history?

L&E’s are a great way to keep the sewing going smoothly! I need to use the technique more than I do. I did not get a follow-up email either.

How are you liking WordPress so far? (I’m irked at Blogger, too, but haven’t decided if I want to jump ship…)
I’ve been a big fan of leaders/enders since I first read about the concept! I’ve sewed hundreds of four patches, for example, that I wouldn’t have if not for l/e. Right now I’m doing HSTs for my Demented quilt as my reach-for at the end of a seam.
Can’t wait to see your leader/ender project! It’ll be done before you know it!

(No email either ) I don’t sew this way but it is a clever way to multi-task!

Do you get emails when people comment on your WP blog? I do, and so I reply to the email, but I also CC the commenter with their addy that comes on the email from WP.
You can be set up to be notified when someone comments.
If you reply through WP on the site, I don’t know if you can make that CC happen.
