Gone a-quilting

On the weekend, we had a special house guest! Mom came by on Saturday and we headed to Sarnia for a quilt show.

It’s been several years since we’ve gone to one (the last one was just after she’d bought the long arm). This one was held in a hockey arena, and was a nice size. And we had an extra tag-along…

He wasn’t in the mood to hang around the house by himself, so he joined us as we walked through the arena. I don’t know if he got as much inspiration as we did, but he really seemed to like this ship quilt.

There was lots to get mom and I excited though. (Mom won a door prize too, which was a nice bonus!)

I was especially interested in the at quilts.

I would love the learn how to do this one day.

The show had a small marketplace with a handful of vendors. Neither Mom or I found anything that tickled our fancy. Well I did… but I wasn’t about to pay $76 for one layer cake. I do kick myself for not taking down the name of it though, because now I can’t find it!

After the show, we all went out to lunch then headed down to Lens in Chatham. There we both found things to buy! (At much better prices). Mom got some background fabrics for a quilt she’s working on, and I raided the pre-cut bin.

I also got a yard of this fabulous fabric!

I wish I liked to sew clothes more, because I would love to have a dress in this!

And I found a wee dragon stuff to top off my purchase!

Can’t beat a day out like that!

Hi Valerie, the art quilts are beautiful! We had a quilt show in our town this weekend too but this was a busy weekend for us so I didn’t get a chance to go. Love the kitty fabric!

Fun! I have never been to a quilt show. I can imagine I would have the same reaction I have as when I walk into an Ikea. I go into a sort of catatonic shock from all the input. All that inspiration in one room? I’d shut down…lol.

  3. Lovely quilts; so beautiful, and the colors are fantastic.
Am thinking of a dragon tat, after the other three that I have planned.
A friend gave me the name of a tat artist in a nearby town, but I cannot find my note to give them a call…how frustrating is that?!?

From your photos, that was a quilt show just full of inspiration. I absolutely love art quilts and would have been spellbound in front of those. Love your fabric and look forward to seeing what it becomes.

  5. Looks like a great show. Art quilts are amazing, and some people make them look easy. I doubt I’ll ever attempt it, but I love admiring other people’s work. Glad you found some fabric and good deals at Lens.

  6. The astronaut quilt caught my eye right away.

Stephen has a friend who’s dad was an astronaut. They lived a street over from us when we were in Orlando. Rick gave Stephen one of the commemorative coins from when he was commander of space shuttle Columbia (ST-S90).
