A snappy harvest

The weather the last couple of weeks has been just perfect for growing things. Hot, humid, with a good amount of rain.

Mid week last week, I went out to check on things and noticed several of the sugar snap pea flowers had given way to the cutest, teeniest little pods.

And no more than four or five days later…

I couldn’t believe it! They were ready for picking!

A respectable first harvest, and a nice little snack for Dave. He ate them all up as soon as I handed them over.

Elsewhere…

We will have a bean harvest soon.

A cucumber harvest is still a ways off, but it’s nice to see flowers on the plants.

And the new strawberries have been planted and are doing quite well. Certainly a good edible season so far!

Those pea pods are so good. I never had a problem growing green beans when I had the big garden over at dad’s. It was the one thing I could always count on. Bugs don’t like them for some reason.

  2. Val,

Your strawberry looks so amazing! Isnt it odd that the peas can grow in warmer weather? I grew one squash last year to take up a dead space and it was fun to watch.

Your kitties continue to make your garden look even lovlier. I am thinking ofadding to my tattoo. I have one kitten asleep on the inside of my wrist, and I want one on the outside aws well.

I’m knitting a shawl.. I just gave my dear dear friend a choice of two shawls, and she loved one I made in biggy yarn. SO knitting another shawl is relaxing and I can give it to someone, I know that is working on fighting cancer.

I am trying Junie on a harness in the house. She is fine sometimes and other times, like yesterday, she seemed afraid with it on. We arent’ planning on outside time just car time. We only have one carrier and when multiple cats have to go to the vet, it would be nice to sit inthe back with Junie on my lap. I am also looking into having her listen “to children” reading to her at our local library.

Waiting for the sun to come out. My wildflowers bed is amazing. Im sure you have seen the poppies. They are stunning and I love them. It took quality seeds, a 75 dollar gift card, and watering consistently , very very often to get them tothis stage, but I am enchanted by them!

My echinacea are blooming. My friend gave me cleome seeds and they are growing in two ways. The ones I scattered in the back are very very tall and thick. not blooming yet

THen I took a 8 inch round pot and put a lot of seeds in that small container. SO I have mini cleome blooming in that one.!! I’ ll be putting it on instagram soon.

MY clematis is amazing this year. So the bees and pollinators are very happy. We do not touchthe woodsin the summer due to ticks. But I also want that section of woods to remain intact and attractive to butterflies, fireflies and all who need a forest untouched.

I love alll you quilts Val. IM happy to see how your summer is going, on your blog! I don’t blog anymore, but yours is the ONE I consistently read. Thank you
