Flowers for February

Here we are in February.

February is always the hardest month for me. Though it’s a short month, it’s almost always cold, grey and dreary. (Though winter this year has been exceptionally grey, it feels).

So in February, flowers in the house are a must for me

Happily, the grocery store always has cut tulips this time of year. I love tulips because they last so long as a cut flower.

And my house plants are doing their best to cheer me up too.

Both of the poinsettias I bought before Christmas are doing quite nicely. The trick with poinsettia is to keep them moist (but don’t drown them) and give them lots of light.

I’m hoping I can keep this pair going to next Christmas. I’ve kept a couple poinsettias till mid-summer… but never past. I’m going to enjoy this challenge.

My light purple violet is still blooming up a storm. I can’t get over how well it’s doing. It’s a very happy little plant.

And remember that aloe that bloomed? We’ll I’ve got another one blooming

This one is a spikier, smaller aloe, but it’s got some pretty big, bold orange flowers. These aloes are certainly happy in the sewing room window.. despite our grey skies!

Flowers do cheer the place up. I wish my cats didn’t eat them. I was surprised to see Ikea have pots of real tulips and daffodils on sale the other day. The way things are popping up here it won’t be long before I’ll be seeing some in the yard-and wishing I had remembered to plant more bulbs last fall. I never remember.

Your blooms are all so pretty! The violet looks blue on my screen and I would smile every time I looked at it. I have never had an aloe plant to bloom. Didn’t even know they bloomed until your previous photo of yours blooming.

I love tulips, I’m not very good at plants though. I hadn’t noticed Lemmy the first time I looked at the pictures. Beautiful flowers.

I know how you feel about February. Especially this year after being gone for a few weeks. But it IS warmer than normal so I guess I’ll have to be content with that. Your flowers are beautiful. Love those little violets and your aloe bloom. But especially Lemmy hiding there in the leaves.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

I always love seeing your flowers! We have 3 aloes here, but there flowers don’t look at all like yours, and the leaves look different, too. However, we aren’t real happy when they bloom because they don’t smell all that great! Your violet is amazing!

  6. February was always my dreary month too, after December holidays and January birthdays (DH and 2 sons). But now there’s Red Alder Fiber Arts Retreat every President’s Day weekend, so it’s not so blue.

Your plants look very happy, and so does Lemmy! I can’t have fresh flowers in the house; the cats want to chew on them. I used to have tulips all the time…but I do have a few plants in the sunroom that the cats ignore! Christmas cactus, African violet, and a small fairy orchid that blooms twice a year.
