Have you guys heard of the Porch Goose? If not, click this link.
Every since we bought the house, I’ve wanted a porch goose. But did you know porch geese are hella expensive??? At least around here – good luck finding a concrete one for under $150. Even the plastic ones on Amazon are $100.
Now I can justify a lot of things… but spending $100 or more dollars on something I’m going to dress up and put on my porch…? Just couldn’t do it.
So imagine my delight, when after almost four years… Dave and I were out thrifting at the ReStore and we came across not one… but FOUR porch geese. Solid concrete and $15 each!!! I literally squealed in delight. Dave was very confused. Apparently, I’d kept my porch geese desires to myself all these years and he had no idea what I was talking about. When I explained it to him, he thought I was joking until the cashier confirmed it was an actual thing people did.
But that’s enough explanation… you want to see her, right?

Isn’t she magnificent??? Well…. she will be. As you can see, she’s in need of a bit of a make-over. But she is solid concrete! And she is HEAVY! Dave was buying a set of speakers and had his hands full, so I had to carry her through the store and to the jeep.
Once the weather warms up enough to paint outside, she’ll be getting a glow up. In the mean time, I’ll be taking her measurements so I can make her first summer outfit!
I had never heard of them before. I love her already and now I am asking my friend who goes to tag sales to look for one for me!!! I can’t wait to see her outfits!

Although this is not popular where I live I have seen it on some home improvement show somewhere sometime. I’ll be looking forward to the next photos of Gertie!

Thrifting Gods were with you again! Those were really popular in my area many years ago. Maybe back in the 90s. Looking forward to seeing the outfits you create.

I’m guessing Gertrude will be a very well dressed duck! I made a couple of ceramic ones back in the 70’s. Unfortunately I had them outside in the garden and after about 10 years they cracked. I’m really surprised you didn’t get all four and have your very own gaggle of geese.
Blessings,
Betsy

Ah, yes…the porch goose. I inherited one of them and a cat and a rabbit, I think. Mine are also made of heavy concrete and have worn down to blobs at this point. I’ll post about them later this week so you can see them.

Can’t wait to see her all gussied up.
Blogging info —- my internet provider had decided that Blogger was “up to no good” and would allow me to use it on my home internet. (Took me HOURS to figure out what was triggering the security warning since NOTHING said Xfinity.)
I figured it I couldn’t get in, I may as well delete my brand new blog. That pissed off Blogger and THEY wouldn’t let me in for “an amount of time” which was undetermined. I am finally back in.
I filed an “exception” with my internet provider and it looks like they said yes, Blogger is okay. SOOOOO, IF I can get in on Tuesday I will re-set up a blog and hopefully there will be not more snafoos!!! Cross your fingers (except when you are making Gertrude a spring outfit).
