Bird bath

Like many of you, we are suffering through a horrible, humid, disgusting heat wave (think 40 degrees C most days). I’m able to hide out in the climate controlled out (we’re loving the heat pump we had installed in January). But the birds are stuck outside.

I have three birdbaths to help keep them cool, and I’ve been making sure the water is fresh and clean for them. I had fun watching this little robin take advantage of one of them on the weekend. The pictures were taken through the window, so I apologize for the quality.

He was having a grand time splashing about by himself.

Now… I’m hoping we get the rain they promised today…

… and that it cools everything off just a touch!

I’ve been using the water jugs I usually recycle for the vultures who visit my deck for leftover cat food every day. I cut them into bowls for them. Last night when we got home mommy vulture had her two babies out there. The last time I peeked at her nest they were little white fuzzy things. Now they are as big as mom and can fly. I’m not even sure how they survive in this heat tbh. It’s been terrible.

We have a big plant saucer that we keep filled with water. The birds enjoy it and then Mabel enjoys lapping up some “bird water.” LOL

Our humidity and temperature were both a bit lower today but that is supposed to change again tomorrow. It was nice while it lasted though! Thank you for taking care of the birds so well.

    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
