Shipping PSA

You may have seen this on the Bearbottom Facebook page, but I thought I should announce it here too.

We’ve just discovered that due to changes in customs regulations, we are now required to prepay import duties on all U.S. shipments. With the removal of the de minimis limit, every quilt shipped to the U.S. is now subject to a 35% tariff — that’s an additional $35 in fees for every $100 spent. (That’s over $100 extra on a $300 quilt).

Unfortunately, this makes it extremely difficult for us to continue offering fair prices to our American customers. As a result, we’ve made the tough decision to temporarily suspend sales to the U.S. while we explore solutions to make this process more manageable for both us and you.

We are really upset about this… and I’m not sure what the solution is, other than charging the additional money. We don’t sell quilts at a fast and furious pace, but at least 50% of our sales have been our friends south of the border

We’re going to mull it over and decide what to do. In the mean time, here’s a look at Mom’s latest quilt on the frame…

I convinced here to add a little snail in the quilting…

If that doesn’t make you smile today – nothing will!

  1. I discovered this a while back by reading soap blogs. People are getting charged insane tariff taxes on even small orders of soap. I’m not sure what I’m going to do for my giveaway since many of my soap “customers” are in Canada. I mark it on the forms as a gift but I hear that’s being put under intense scrutiny as folks try to avoid the extra charges. I don’t want to end up in Alligator Alcatraz over soap. It’s all so sad and ridiculous. I can only hope the part of the USA that thinks running a country like a business is waking up to the grift. You’re being had by a con folks.

Mom’s quilting is always stellar. I sure wish I knew her secret. I’d kill for that skill.

I am so embarassed to live in the US right now. It breaks my heart that small business like you have to lose business. It makes me irate that many Americans think that these tariffs are a good thing. I am so sorry for your business. You and your mom do such wonderful work.

  3. I am so sorry. Our country is an absolute shit show right now.

Our son was laid off from his job in July due to his government contracts being eliminated. We are probably looking at him moving back here sometime in the not too distant future. Unemployment and savings only go so far.

One bright side —- in our local elections EVERY democrat won. We turned our township a bright BLUE! Hopefully, this blue wave holds through the mid-terms next year.

In the meantime…….hope you and your mom find some solutions to the tariff issue.

  4. Your Mom does beautiful quilting, yes that snail is perfect! Hope you find a solution. How far are you from the border? Maybe a weekend trip over the border to get them mailed would work.

The snail is amazing and definitely made me smile. Your Mom is so talented. I’m sorry about the additional taxes. Maybe what Connie said, a trip over the border?

    Blessings,
    Betsy
