Now that March is here, I think I’m going to start a new thing on the blog… Seedy Sunday! The day where you see what I’m doing to prep for full-on garden season.
It’s still a little early to start any seeds indoors, but I have been doing other things.
First… I’ve struggled to get annual poppies to grow. They have to be started from seed, in the location you want them to grow (they don’t like to be transplanted)… and they’ve just never grown for me.
Then I read that they like a little cold/moist weather before the warm stuff to get started… and late winter is actually the best time time to spread the seeds.

So I got a pack of mixed California Poppy seeds and went out and tossed them in the front gardens. Fingers crossed this works!
The back inside, it was time to take stock of my other seeds. Last year, I bought a lovely little organizer that came with seed envelopes

Partly to have a place to put seed I collect from the garden, but aslso to help organize the chaos that is my seed box. Sunday afternoon, I finally sat down and got it all done

I also wrote down everything I have already, so I know what else I still need to order (which I need to do this week!)
It went quite well, with the exception of one thing….

I’m going to need a binder with bigger rings, because once all the seeds are in, it’s too thick to close! But snapped tight or not, the seeds are organized and I’m feeling VERY optimistic about the upcoming garden season!
Your seed cup overflows!

I spent the morning on my hands and knees in the mud weeding my front beds. What a mess. After seeing your really cool binder I’m wondering if I could do some in-ground seeding this year? I’ll have to investigate. My grandmother used to throw handfuls of zinnia seeds in her beds and they were always a riot of color in summer.

At the moment I am spending more time on my indoor plants. It’s cold and rainy here but the daffodils are blooming well.

I sure hope your poppies come up. I’ve always liked them since I first saw “The Wizard of Oz,” which is weird because the poppies put them to sleep!
Cool organizer for your seeds. I hope it fits everything for you, but I have my doubts. You plant a LOT!
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
