It’s a long weekend here in Canada. And a much needed one. But as you read this, I’m probably spending my holiday Monday sitting in my chair, in front of a fan trying not to sweat too much. Saturday, our heat pump conked out on us (yes… the one we had installed less than two years ago… no… I’m not happy). The company that installed it can’t get someone here until Wednesday.
It rain most of the weekend (much needed), so thankfully it wasn’t killer hot. We were able to open the windows and get the breeze moving through.
Saturday, Burton and I headed up to the studio and got one of the Christmas quilts charted out…

With that done, we got to cutting.

With that done, Dave decided we should try changing the HVAC filter to see if that got the heat pump working again…. so we headed out to buy one and grab dinner. Sadly, the filter did not solve the problem.
Sunday, after a long snuggle in the morning, listening to the rain fall outside the window… Burton and I decided we might as well get the top sewn.

Lemmy joined us for laying the squares out. And slowly, row by row….

The top came together by dinner time. It finished up at about 61″ x 72″

I still have to dig through the bins for a back (It was far too muggy to be muscling the bins out of the corner then back in again), but we are going with a scrappy binding.

Now I just have to get the top done for his sister’s quilt, then I can book a quilting weekend with Mom!
Oh my goodness Valerie, I am so sorry about your heat pump! Your quilt looks great. Take care!❤️

Ugh to a broken heat pump! And in this muggy weather. The quilt is very pretty.

Thankfully, it’s not super super humid – and the rain yesterday seemed to take away a lot of the heat. It’s only supposed to get up to about 76 today. But we keep the house at 67 in the summer, so it’s an adjustment for us for sure!
It’s not too bad if you’re not being super active! So good time to sit and craft! Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter, and I am hoping they are wrong

Getting all that done with no AC? I’m impressed. I’m surprised that your new unit conked out. We’ve had issues with ours in the heat also and it was no fun either.

Thankfully it was raining all day yesterday so while it was humid, it wasn’t super hot. Today is sunny, but the rain seems to have brought temps down a bit – I hope it lasts until it’s fixed. I have a very grumpy polar bear of a husband right now.

It’s a wonderful quilt!
You always know how to match the colours and designs.
And so kind of LBB and Lemmy to lend their paws to the work.

Not fun. And I’m totally ticked that the pump isn’t even two years old! AND this is the second time they’ve been out to fix something on the new system. In January, the furnace (which is the same age) went down. It was something to do with the computer control panel and I suspect this is a similar issue (if not the same one).
Thankfully it’s not the crazy heat – temps actually aren’t too bad today and the rain we had yesterday seems to have swept the worst of the humidity away. If it can stay like this until Wednesday we’ll be ok

Hi Valerie, Robin here again. I was mentioning to Chuck that your two year old heat pump had pooped out. I forgot, our three year old freezer pooped out a year ago. It was the starter mechanism (I think that’s what it is called). Chuck was able to diagnose and fix it but not before we lost a freezer full of food, we had been away. We now keep an extra starter on hand! Take care.❤️

That stinks – we too lost our little standup freezer this year – (as well as all the food in it). It was my fault though – I didn’t get the door shut properly (more than once) and it all iced up and destroyed the motor. Dave tried to fix it – but it would have cost more than a new freezer. Now we have one that opens on the top (instead out out like a fridge door) so I won’t accidentally leave it open!
Happily, the heat pump is NOT my fault! Unhappily, I think it’s related to an issue we had with the furnace earlier this year – the HVAC control panel. They had to replace it completely in January. And I think it’s failed again. They certainly don’t make things like they used to!

The quilt top is beautiful! So unfortunate about the heat pump and surprising that it cannot be serviced until Wednesday. Hope it is a simple and quick fix!

What a nice flimsy! Hope you are staying cool until they can get it fixed, I understand your frustration…you get something new and it should work more than two years.

No, no, no! I’m so sorry about your heat pump. Nothing, no appliance seems dependable anymore. It seems like things are made to break. But look at all that the three of you got done! Without LBB and Lemmy, it would have taken you so much longer! HA! The top looks great and so does the scrappy binding. I love the fabrics.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
