With June here, I really wanted to get a move on my Christmas list. I’m actually planning on making fewer things this year, but a few things are on the bigger side.
Like the present for Dad. In the winter, he’s always cold, so my plan was to make him a Grandpa cardigan. Something he could throw on and off. Mom gave me some yarn from her stash – she’d got it ages ago with plans to make Dad a sweater, but never got that far.
When I told her my plans, she said I’d be safer with a pullover vs a cardigan. And the plainer the better. She’s been married for him to for 45 years, so I bow to her wisdom on the matter.
In the end I came up with Southwood.

Top down, raglan… and plain, plain, plain! The yarn is Patons Classic wool in a cream/light grey twist. I’ve got the collar done, and that’s all I can do for now. For some reason, I don’t have a 5mm circular needle. One has been ordered from Amazon, but it probably won’t arrive until the end of the week.
While I’m waiting, I’m working on the Static man sock.

It’s coming along quite nicely, and I’m working my way down the gusset. I love the pops of yellow in this pair. It just adds a touch of excitement in an otherwise simple knit.
Those stripes on the sock would keep me going just to see what comes up next.

The static yarn is so pretty. That will be a nice sweater for your Dad, but man…that’s a lot of plain knitting!!

That is a perfect pullover. I made one for Dad years ago and now I have it and I keep it in the car in case I get cold. I use it all the time. It’s so comfy. I loved it so much I made myself a black one for work and I wore it everyday with a vest over it until an ambulance crew cut it off me after I was in a serious crash on my way to work one day. I was so pissed.

Decades ago, I found an old man’s cardigan, and it was so comfortable to wear!
The Hubby finally suggested that I find something less unfashionable, but I remember that sweater, wishing I still had it.
Except for the golf course logo.

Looking at the Static yarn in the ball you would never guess what it would look like knit up. I really like it and may have to order some myself. I’ll have to look at past posts to find the colorway.
That sweater will be perfect for your Dad! I made a couple for Dennis that were very similar and he wears them often. So comfortable.
Blessings,
Betsy

Plain knits can be boring, but I think most non knitters prefer them. I love the stripes on the sock!

That looks like the beginning of a great sweater for your Dad. The colors will go with anything and the style seems to be a fit like a t-shirt instead of snug. The yarn for the socks is such a wonderful color.

I’ve tried to make Hubster a sweater, but he’s too hot for them. But the man is always FREEZING! So, I’m not sure why he won’t wear sweaters. Love the socks!
