Hangers-on

While I may be done with gardening for the year, not all the plants are. There’s not a tonne going on, but until we get a really good frost overnight, they’ll hang on.

IMG_7123

The toad lilies, of course, are as cute as can be. I may just get more of these come spring.

Scentimental and Blue Girl are trying to push out a few final blooms

IMG_7118

And this will definitely be the last strawberry of 2019.

IMG_7124

And I just love the African Daisies I got this year. I really wish they were perennials, but they won’t survive the cold.

IMG_7119

I’ve got to admit, irises in October has kind of freaked me out, but apparently, they are supposed to bloom now. They are a variety “re-blooming” iris that blooms in both spring and fall. But apparently, they don’t start doing it until their second year. I must see if I can get more.

We could see snow any time now, so I’m enjoying each bloom that remains. Anything still making a show in your garden?

Leaf me be!

While I had all my leaf blocks pieced, they still needed one more thing before I started sewing them all together.

IMG_7156

They needed their stems! The stems are done with applique, something I’ve never done before. But under Mom’s tutelage, I managed it.

IMG_7155

And I’m quite pleased with the results! With that done, it was time to start assembling the top.

IMG_7157

Sadly, it’s not quite done yet. I’m still working in shorter sewing sessions to save my back. I really wanted to finish this one, but I have to remind myself, there’s no rush. It will get done when it gets done. The next step is to add a thin, white border, then a wider one with this fabulous fabric.

IMG_7158

Another clearance bin find! As was the backing flannel I have for this one

IMG_7159

Isn’t it sweet. The ladybugs (which you may recognize from Rooster Eggs) will be used for the binding.

A new sock

With my Undines done, I needed a new sock project.  Although I’m making Dave a quilt for Christmas, it never hurts to have a pair of socks to wrap up. So I dove into the BFL Alley Cat I dyed up just for him and started stitching.

IMG_3475

I sketched up a  little skully chart and threw a row in just for fun. I’ve never made Dave a pair of colourwork socks before.

I’m resisting the urge to work on them instead of the poncho. They are supposed to be for travel knitting only, but part of me wants to release the pattern to you all before Hallowe’en.

But I guess skulls are in fashion all year round, these days.

Be still my heart

Those jelly roll hearts went together quicker than even I expected…

IMG_7134

…. so I figured I might as well sash it all and finish off the top.

IMG_7133

It’s just plain white sashing with this cute dotty print from the jelly roll for a little cornerstone pop!

IMG_7138

Another print from the jellyroll will bind it all, and this cute little heart flannel will be the backing.

Now it’s off to Mom’s for quilting!!!

FO: Kitten Cove

Come on down to Kitten Cove… the water is just purrfect!

IMG_3428

And so is this quilt! I was thrilled by the finished top and I am absolutely smitten with the final quilt. It almost makes me want a baby of my own, so I can keep it.

IMG_3430

I’ve never been a huge fan of blue, but the navy with the white, and the odd pop of red is just so striking. The pattern is simple, but so effective.

IMG_3431

The back was some leftover seashells from the same line. And I snagged a pretty navy paisley from Mom’s stash for the binding.

IMG_3433

The quilt is 46″ square, so it’s perfect cuddle size. And just a perfect quilt all around!

Good night, sweet petals

While my yard is still very green…

IMG_7085

It was time to prepare everything for winter. The days are still fairly warm, but the nights are definitely getting colder.

IMG_7086

I especially had to get all my indoor plants back inside before the frost hits.  Now they are all safe and warm and the house looks like a jungle again.

I did my pruning and cleaning, and though I’ll still enjoy a bloom or two here and there until we get a hard frost, everything is ready for a season of rest. All that’s left is to take a moment to reflect on the beauty this year has brought.

What a wonderful year is has been!

All quacked up

If you’ve been keeping track, you’ll know that I had a quilting project box empty. It’s just not right to have it sitting there, unloved, so….

37c8e589a91c233cd647ae34461b0723

I dug deep in the stash and came up with a Jelly Roll (2.5″ strips for you non-quilters) of Animal Quakers – a fun, 30s style group of prints.

Then I went fishing for the perfect pattern. It didn’t take long. These jellly roll hearts are just too cute. I’m not making a table runner, but expanding the pattern into a baby blanket with nine hearts.

IMG_7047

Once everything is cut – they go together quite quick.  In fact, in less than an hour, I had three done already.

IMG_7049

Aren’t they just so sweet? I stopped at three for the day, because I’ve been pushing myself a little with my sewing sessions, and I’m starting to pay the price with increased back issues again. But don’t worry, the other six will be done soon enough!

Here’s where  everything else is at

  • Celtic Dreams – All blocks are done. I’m just waiting on my backing and sashing fabric which should arrive any day now
  • Pinkerville quilt – This one still doesn’t have a proper name yet, but I’m still making gorgeous blocks.
  • Unbe-Leaf-able – Leaves are done, just have to assemble the top.
  • Heart-shaped quackers – Three hearts complete
  • Leader and Ender quilt – Those geese are gaggling fast! But I plan to make lots and lots and lots!

And before I sign off, I leave you with these excessivley charming piggies from the jelly roll.

Aren’t they just too cute?

Friday Felines

First, thank you for all the lovely anniversary wishes. We ordered in Chinese and had a quiet but lovely night in! It was perfection.

Today’s Friday Feline post is brought to you by Mr. Tibbs….

Who clearly thinks I spend too much time with the long arm instead of paying attention to him!
